War is a battle won by beauty, specifically the beauty of Hrithik Roshan. As a special agent Kabir, the actor has brought back his dazzling good looks and soft style as he did in his debut film Kaho Naa ... Pyaar Hai and Dhoom 2. In one scene, Hrithik simply leaves a helicopter. He doesn’t even run like Shah Rukh Khan did in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. But everyone, including Colonel Kabir, reports that they are paralyzed. Kabir’s sideburns are gray, his face is lined and lacerated. But this only adds to its weathered beauty.
Later in the movie, when a girl offers to run away with Kabir, her young Khalid says “get in line”. Of course, Khalid is not far behind. Tiger Shroff’s torn abs get their own moment of glory. But fortunately, in this movie, the actor doesn’t just trust his physical dexterity. The role has more complexities than the usual Tiger movie and the actor delivers it. It also helps that Tiger is a self-proclaimed Hrithik bhakt, so the admiration you see in Khalid’s eyes is genuine. Kabir is about loot and Khalid is about sincerity. They complete each other.
In War, Siddharth has the opportunity to make a film with two of the best action heroes of Hindi cinema, but fortunately, he supports the propelling action with a story. Of course, if you are willing to suspend disbelief, twists, turns and exert a solid grip. The story, and the script of Siddharth and Shridhar Raghavan are silly but never falls. The movie also offers a trip to all the places you can have on your wish list. From Kerala to Bondi Beach in Australia and Portugal, each place has been filmed as a brilliant tourism catalog by PDO Benjamin Jasper. Dozens of aerial shots underline the scale of the film and the money that was spent.
Four action directors worked on this movie. Paul Jennings, who did The Dark Knight, Oh Sea Young, who did Avengers: Age of Ultron, Franz Spilhaus, who did Death Race: Inferno and Parvez Shaikh, who did Tiger Zinda Hai. These men create distinctive pieces.
we have a motorcycle chase, an airplane battle, and this two-minute and thirty-second bone-crushing sequence in which Khalid is introduced. There is also a massively mounted climactic sequence on a ship that breaks the ice. But, whether by land, sea or air, Hrithik and Tiger make the action convincing. I like that your characters are not unbreakable. We see them bleed and run out. Momentarily, at least, they seem fallible.
The war is not about deepening, but the story is not afraid of being a little more twisted. The film is too long and the portion after the interval sinks. In some places, the story becomes awkward. There is a flashback inside a flashback and the songs are adjusted forcibly. In fact, the background music of Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara has more impact than the two songs of Vishal-Shekhar. This is, of course, a heavy universe of testosterone. The women Vaani Kapoor, Soni Razdan, Anupriya Goenka enter briefly to provide the emotional center. But, war is largely a bromance that shines because Hrithik and Tiger are combative without being competitive. I had a great time, I think you do too.
