Saaho

The nicest thing you can say about Saaho is that it’s a real theater of absurdity. During the promotional interviews, Prabhas described the film as a screenplay which I think meant a lot of twists and turns. Yes, there is that. It’s a labyrinthine story with double identities, double-crosses, a secret black box, two lakh crore rupees missing, cops and criminals who are not what they seem and a fictional city called Waaji, which is described as Hindustan se door to crime ke paas. The film begins with a voice-over that establishes what is happening and who is who. But the plot is both complicated and ridiculous. The characters ask at least twice in the film: What’s going on? Honestly, I can not tell you. Saaho is essentially a chain of expensive sets assembled to showcase the ruler. Prabhas returns to screen two years after the success of the Baahubali franchise. Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali are a difficult act to follow. So, the writer-director Sujeeth has done everything - we have Prabhas, the charming protector lover but also the dangerous bad boy. In case you do not have it, there’s even a song in which Prabhas is standing on a tank while dozens of lightly clad women and Jacqueline Fernandez tremble around him. For no reason at all, at the end of the song, the tank crushes two cars, while Prabhas passes, smoking a cigar in slow motion. It’s a macho posture carried to the next level. There is also Prabhas as a vengeful angel, a good son and beneficent. It’s 50 shades of Prabhas that will suit all fans. The actor combines a gentle way with an excessive physicality. It has an excellent presence on the screen, but even these powerful shoulders need a little story to build on. In Saaho, more attention and money seem to have been invested in the action, songs and the closet that the writing. It feels like a movie from the 80s: Sujeeth offers us a world in which criminals with bright jackets have board meetings to decide what their next move will be. Mandira Bedi plays a key legal advisor. They tell us that she is a graduate of Stanford and Oxford. she wears saris of handlooms and silver jewelry. Neil Nitin Mukesh is a character so determined that he is walking on a tape with a bullet in his leg. Meanwhile, villains take pedicures and bubble baths, while background music underlines their evil. Chunky Pandey decided he would increase the threat by speaking very slowly, like Truck ... milne ... se ... kuch ... nahin ... hota. Both cops and criminals in the movie are equally dumb. Especially Amrita, played by Shraddha Kapoor. In one scene, they lose the criminal they pursue because they get drunk and start singing Psycho Saiyaan instead of focusing on the job. And Amrita has clearly never heard of sexual harassment in the workplace. Because when his superior, Tum asks jaisi khubsoorat ladki police department mainkya kar rahi hai? She has no problem with that. I know that a popcorn artist like Saaho is not motivated by logic or consistency. And I would have made peace if the movie had a good time. My biggest complaint is that it is a bore. A lot of work has been dedicated to creating extravagant action and sets. The budget is Rs 350 million, but for the viewer there is little money. I got over it by getting involved with peripherals, like the many muscular men who had fascinating tattoos and haircuts. Everyone growls and looks at the camera. And it was a remarkably international team. In one scene, we meet bad guys called Franco Brothers. His introduction is - inko darr hi nahin lagta. Animals also appear randomly: an ostrich, a python and a panther. It is incredibly crazy. There is so much on the screen and so little that it sticks. I hope that the next time Prabhas decides to dedicate years of his life to a project, he is closer to Baahubali than this. For more comments like this, go to www.9cinemareview.blogspot.com
